Across most of the country this week, and this morning as I type this, we are experiencing
a deep freeze. Many schools and activities have been canceled because of the frigid
temperatures. People are wrapped in several layers just to stay warm. Most people,
if they can, are staying inside and are not going out at all. Many things have come
to a standstill.
This made me think of our Christian walk and how we need to experience an occasional
“deep freeze.” I know you are thinking a “deep freeze?” “Aren’t we supposed to be
‘on fire’ for the Lord?” These things don’t seem to add up.
I was thinking of a “deep freeze” in the sense that many things have come to a standstill.
In Psalms 46:10 David tells us: "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted
among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." In Exodus 14:14 are these words:
The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." If you are like me I find
myself running around and trying to do everything myself. If I would take the time
to “stand still” (experience a “deep freeze”) I would feel more refreshed and I
would “burn” for God better than when I am on the go.
So this week don’t just let the temperatures slow you down, purposefully slow down
so that God can light your fire.
